yesterday the movie trailer - Google Search
An unusual premise. Walter Mitty like.
Looks good. And the music might be ok, too.
The filmmakers reduce the Beatles to a kind of karaoke kitsch epiphany. In "Yesterday," there's no mystery to these songs. The whole joke is what cosmically known quantities they are. Full review
Film Review: ‘Yesterday’
Danny Boyle's musical fairy tale about a world without the Beatles, in which an indie rocker brings them back, is really a fantasy of rebooting the Beatles. It's cute and watchable, but it lacks the magic of discovery.
Fair enuff, summer fluff, a melodious Rom Com....we could do worse at the theater
or streaming...in fact I have, much to my chagrin.
It's not as inventive as ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, but ....
and i was entertained with the "I AM SAM" beatles Covers.
Buy really man why is it Hey Jude, Hey Dude makes so much more sense.
Coulda dedicated to the tweeter-in-chief and gone with "Hey Rude".
I'm going to see this movie this afternoon at my local public library btw.
I watched this with my wife a few weeks back and didn't make it over to post in this thread. We both really enjoyed it. Its not a perfect film but at least it was not a reboot, remake, comic book, or even straight musician biopic. It definitely gets extra credit from me for trying.
We bought via iTunes and I've been delving into the extras a bit more recently. There are a number of decent cut scenes that I get why they were cut but I enjoyed seeing them. One of them was a very similar but slightly twisted alternate ending....
In the theatrical ending, instead of Himesh Patel's character realizing he's the only one who knows about Harry Potter it is reversed and Lily James makes a Harry Potter reference and its clear he doesn't know about that. I also enjoyed the little side plot elements that maybe weren't strictly necessary like the eventual reveal that the two "stalkers" know about The Beatels but they're not going to bust Patel's character, they just want to thank him.
