Caught this on IMAX 3D (true full-size IMAX screen). It’s based on a manga from 1990 that James Cameron has been teasing as his next film since 1999 (post Titanic!). After languishing for a decade then getting side tracked with his even older pet project Avatar, he gave this script (rumored to be over 600 pages) to Robert Rodriguez, along with his Avatar camera tech. Rodriguez further refined the script then directed the resulting film, which is absolutely stunning popcorn entertainment the likes of which we haven’t seen since, well Avatar...and this time with no white savior tropes to weigh it down.
This is a must see on the biggest screen that you can find, yes in 3D as well since, like Avatar, it was filmed with 3D cameras, not converted in post. The action is brutal, fast paced, and shockingly well directed (no shaky cam nonsense) and all of the actors do a fine job. The lead actress is Rosa Salazar and she is absolutely great in the lead role of Alita. It also stars Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, and a few surprises that I won’t spoil.
This movie will be a home theater demo for years to come with several sequences that took my breath away...but don’t wait for the disk/streaming/ whatever...go see it in the theater!

The general public I think is going to avoid this one given the previews but I've heard nothing but good things. No one I know wants to see it so I'll probably wait for home.

This may get me back to the theater for the first time in a while. “The action is brutal”. Like super bloody and violent? This seems like something I would watch with my older daughter (11).

The Rodriguez' attitude was enough to hold my attention for 2 hours. Miles better than Aquaman.

I generally see these type of movies by myself. :grinning: I'll have to go see this one. Do you think 3D is a must?

3D is a demerit, always. Why would you see a film in 3D?

    One word: Gravity
That is one movie that actually benefited from it (not that it doesn't work in 2D)

Violent within the PG-13 rating...a hard PG-13 lol. It’s very visceral. My two kids loved it (11 and 15).

This was filmed in 3D with 3D cameras so I’d say it’s a must. If 3D bothers you, it’ll be perfectly fine in 2D but if you have the option, 3D is the way to go...and I say this as someone who generally watches everything in 2D.

What I needed to read, since I cannot watch 3d without getting dizzy and wanting to throw up.

I have yet to see a 3D film that looks sharp. Always see a slight double image...

We saw it in 2D. I imagine the IMAX 3D would be a major pummeling.
