Nearly 50 Charged in College Admissions Bribery Scandal
“Money talks! Nobody walks!” I don’t find this surprising....
They just should have gone to my prestigious alma mater and they wouldn't have to go thru that embarrassment
Glad to see that this story and investigation saw the light of day!
Let’s see if money also buys the perpetrators different punishment.
Didn't even pay tuition here.
This is so bizarre to me. Maybe I haven't read closely enough but here is what I do and do not understand
Some of the accused payed people to take entrance exams for their kids and fill out applications (the latter may not be problematic if it was just administrative and not "write an essay about___" but I think in some cases it was that)
It doesn't appear they were bribing admissions departments, it looks like they were bribing coaches to recruit these kids to get them admitted under lax standards for sports they never even played in some cases.
Why not just donate to the University? That's scummy but legal.
The level of schadenfreude is delicious. These kids were born on third base and their parents still had to kick the ladder out from someone else to get their spawn that should have been a cumstain on the sheets into schools the kids didn't even want to go to. I got the answer to #3. The main guy that is now turning state's witness calls it a side door. Front door is like how a qualified kid gets in. Back door is $50M for a new library. This is the side door, its $500k instead of $50M to bump test scores and fake an athletic recruiting.
Yup, nothing unbelievable here. Just the usual "rich people behaving badly"
Gives the 1% a bad name.
nothing new under the SUN.
I must say I am somewhat sensitive to the celebrity “thing”. It appears to me, now living near LA and getting local news from LA, that if you are a celebrity you somehow magically have the answer on how to live, breath and what is morally and socially correct for everyone. That is why I liked seeing this story see the light of day. :)
Call me Pollyanna. I'm still gagging over the sheer gall of those involved. Give 'em a fair trial and hang 'em.
It's not even the 1%, its the .001% that are pillaging the entire system from politics to business to higher learning, across the board. 1% means you did damn good for yourself and you were probably very fortunate along the way. .001% means the entire world is your personal piggy bank and nearly everything is legal because you can afford to make it so.
Capitalism in the purest form third world style.
