    A follow-up to the not-exactly-beloved 2014 Godzilla film.
This one fully embraces the cheese and reminded me of Independence Day in overall tone which means if you're like me you'll find yourself chuckling during scenes meant to be "serious" but still have a good time due to the action and spectacle of it all.
The monsters look great and if you grew up with Godzilla movies as a kid like I did, you will probably have a big smile on your face through most of this movie. Smashy smashy fun!
The very definition of "check your brain at the door" yet somehow still enjoyable.

Cool! The trailer looked great and did I also see Gidra the three headed monster as a co-star? I saw everyone I could as a kid.

Yes. Ghidora (sp?) plays a prominent role and is (spoiler alert) AWESOME! :grinning:

The 2014 movie was lacking in action but imo was well written and acted and was a decent movie, this is a sequel by different writer and director and reverted.back to action and plot writing so I guess it gave fans what they wanted. ;).

I was a little disappointed because they lowered the IQ but they did up the action. The old monsters were cool to see, they added a few new ones and it is heavily tied to Kong Skull Island.

One of the things that impressed me in the first one was the well fleshed out military leader who returned for this movie. In the last it did my heart good to see him as intelligent and thoughtful and not just a 2D drop in but in this movie the military went back to being stooges and the one actor who is a great actor seemed stuck along for the ride.

The 2014 Godzilla has a 76% critics rating from Rotten Tomatoes but only a 66% audience score. That's pretty damn impressive for this genre. It also stars Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, and David Strahairn. The cast is rounded out by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Juliette Binoche who are respected in their own rights. Having re-watched the 2014 film yesterday in preparation for watching the sequel, it is a really well done genre film in my opinion and I suspect the lower audience score is attributable to the slow pacing of the first act. I will also say this movie has insane bass.

This sequel however has a 41% and an 83% audience score. That sounds like the makeup of a really fun action film. For reasons that viewers of the first film will understand, Only Watanabe and Strathairn return from the cast but adding in rising star Millie Bobby Brown probably doesn't hurt. I'll let you know what I think after I watch it later this week.

I thought the 2014 film was decent but the lead actor was like a charisma vacuum and pretty much killed it for me. The supporting actors were under-utilized and Cranston was (unfortunately) only in the movie for like 10 minutes. I'm very curious what you think of the new film because it's wildly different in tone and execution.

I enjoyed both of the Godzilla movies. However, while watching the 2019 one with my 34 year-old son, I was again reminded about how culturally dense our young people are. Anyone old enough to see that movie should understand why the big battle was staged over Fenway Park.
