I was recently reminded of this Anime from Studio Ghibli considering the fact that it will be released on HBO Maxx. The story is heartbreaking, gets you in the feels, tear jerker, whatever how you describe it.

Two orphaned children living in Japan during World War II trying to survive and having to deal with decisions brought forth by the ills of society. I don't want to get into the details of the film, but it is a very interesting watch if you're interested. Just be prepared for some heartbreaking moments.

I've watched my share of Anime but have been avoiding this one because I know it'll slay me. My son loves it too Jay.

Easily one of the best anti-war films ever made.

The viewpoint is key. Flags of Our Fathers comes to mind. Or the Star Wars Novel "Lost Stars". The point of view of the "enemy" isn't as binary as we are taught. Suffering doesn't discriminate.
