uhhhhh... I'm in
Ok this is out now...
Saw it yesterday with Noah who is becoming a bit of a history buff on WWII lately.
I will say I went in expecting a kind of kilter comedy and there is that part to it, but it is so much more. A wonderfully deep movie and I am going to say it might have a couple Oscar noms, tough I doubt any winners.. Scarlet Johansson was very good and could get a supporting actor nom, Taiki Waititi should get one as director and maybe supporting actor but if anyone here is going to pull off a win it would be Sam Rockwell as supporting actor. I have always liked him and thought he does good work but he is fantastic here. Maybe best picture Nom too.
If you were thinking yeah I would like to see this and will get it on disc, get up off your ass and go see it, this is a great movie and it needs to see some theatrical support.
The Jews have a way of mining comedy from the unlikeliest of subjects, and this proves to be the case here.
it was what I expected, but so much more too.
Nobody else has seen this excellent movie yet?
Going today, Max. Looking forward to it.
I'm probably waiting for home video on this one though it does look good
"JoJo Rabbit" is an artsy film with dark humor and heartbreak as well. It looks terrific. Much of the film is seen through the eyes of a 10 year old German boy. What he sees throws a strong light on truth and deception, patriotism and nationalism. The actors are all very good with bonus points to Roman Griffin Davis as the boy. Recommended but not everyone may appreciate this film as much as I, or so I fear.
This weekend I’ll try and see it. Today was a busy day of emergencies and walk-ins . Then tonite was John Cleese. What a hoot. Last nite was knives out! Another hoot of a film.
Ok it got a nom for Picture and Director as well has Scarlet getting one for supporting actress. Sam Rockwell was overlooked perhaps his part was not big enough, but he was amazing in every scene he was in.
Was expecting comments with the digital realest but still nothing 2 weeks later, BD today.
I'm behind on movies but I had already pre-ordered this one. Been gaming too much.
I haven't seen it, but I have mixed feelings about a comedy of this subject matter...
My grandfather was tattooed...
I have no interest.
I have relatives that lived through it as well. My thoughts on that are comedy is a way to deal with pain and if you look at the number of Jewish stand ups that were children or the children’s child ren of that time you will see what I mean. Just how we have lots of black stand ups that came out of poor conditions here.
The director who also plays Hitler is a Jew, and having seen the movie I found it poked fun at some of the stupidly of some of the Jewish myths.
BTW when I worked at the hotels in Miami Beach as a kid I used to take out vacation girls. I slept with one and the religion thing did not come up, The next day she freaked when she found out I was a Jew.
Max, I had no idea Taika Waititi is actually, Taika David Cohen. He and I share a last name.
I still have my own issues with the subject matter and comedy, but I may give it a watch...
The Germans took a beating from Mel Brooks on more than one occasion. As Max suggested, humor can be a valuable weapon.
Ok we had this on the other day and a friend of my wife came by and was talking to her and all of a sudden...What The Fuck are you people watching.
I loved it.
We watched the video the other night. There is humor in the movie, but it's very dark. Hitler as JoJo's imaginary friend was a very strange twist. Especially the way the Fuhrer was portrayed as such a buffoon. Reminded me of someone??? We toured the Anne Frank house when we were in Amsterdam, and the girl in the wall reminded me of her. I thought that the two boys that played JoJo and his friend were terrific.
Yes but did you like it?
