What do you expect from a flick based on a Barry Manilow hit?

OK, a podcast I listen to covered this film. I generally try to avoid listening to analysis of movies I haven't seen but when you know you're in for something weird sometimes it helps. I've discovered some gems this way like Killer Joe. The podcast was enough to get me to give this one a spin.

Anyway, Mandy is a revenge film but mixed with 80s period, retro slasher, LSD trip, and heavy metal music video vibes. The movie is definitely unique. A redditor said he felt like this is the movie Rob Zombie has been unsuccessfully trying to make. Its not going to be for everyone but before you knock it, at least its not based on a book, a comic, or a sequel to an existing franchise. It was a big swing. I have a feeling people are going to either say it was a total wiff or a home run. It has a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes if you place any value in that.

I liked the concept, the acting, the look, but found the revenge parts to be surprisingly uninspired. I was expecting some incredibly satisfying kills and they were just...ehh. But it was cool.

Nicholas Cage's best performance, EVER! Not a particularly high bar. HA.

I'll remind the haters that Cage is an Oscar winner and should have won a second for Adaptation.

Its a trope to show a character can see the beauty past their damage.
