My next trip will be to visit Ron La Porte of Ultimate Audio Video in Chicago, to hear his recently-completed rooms which were designed and acoustically treated by Matts of http://www.diffusor.com/

I remember that you have already posted about this website a while ago.

    Looks pretty impressive.

Good memory; now I'm going to find out first hand if they're as good as their reputation.

I haven't determined that, but probably within the next few weeks. I will let you know as soon as my plans have been made.

Dang. I don't have any excuses to run away! ;)

They're actually quite close to me, being North side and all. Half hour jaunt on a good day. We do our grocery shopping right around the corner, and I just passed them by on the train. Never knew they existed. Funny how that works!

With the construction around O'Hare, the extra twenty minutes between Deerfield and Milwaukee's airport *might* lend that a better fly-in spot (if prices don't kill it... sometimes they do, sometimes not.) Assuming you fly. :)

    Larry,
If you are seeing various rooms, you might want to see about seeing Mike Lavignes' room in Seattle. I wouldn't be surprised if his is better than anything you see otherwise.

Actually, the jury is split on Mike Lavigne's room, with apparently more people disliking it than liking it.

May I ask a, uhhh, dumb question? You have many unused diffusers for your current room. Your focus for the new room seems based on mucho diffraction and diffusion. What's up? A change in philosophy? What brought this on?

I am familiar with Rives, and used them for my current room. Without going into detail, suffice it to say that the room at Ultimate Audio was originally done by Rives, then subsequently re-done by Matts.

Diffraction and diffusion are essentially the same thing. What I am trying to avoid is too much absorption.

Interestingly, Matts' bass traps are Helmholtz resonators, not fiberglass-based like typical bass traps.

I will indeed be flying, but hadn't yet given any thought as to which airport would be quickest.
