I still have my DVD collection nearly 500 or so. Why I never sold them off I don't know. I never watch them anymore. I have about 50 Blu-ray, and 20 or so 4K, some of which I never opened. I am so satisfied with some of the streaming services, I don't see myself buying any more physical media. I have a 65" Sony X900e that has an amazing picture even with 720P and 1080P. I see a little difference with 4K, but it's not a wow factor like going from DVD to BR.

I sold mine as a batch and took a huge bath on them but I just wanted them gone.

I got rid of some of my DVDs when Best Buy had their upgrade program (I think they gave you $5 off for each DVD). In most of the cases I just got the Blu-Ray version of the DVD I had. I haven't rewatched many of the DVDs over the past couple of years (maybe 8-10). I moved and packed all my media (and audio stuff) just over 5 years ago and if I planned to do that again, I'd rethink it and sell. I just had so many things to deal with getting the house ready for sale in VA and staying on top of the construction (with my crazy wiring) of the FL house, I just never got the time. I gave away over half the furniture I had in VA (bascially took 3 rooms, my office stuff, my living room stuff and my master bedroom).

I had ~400. Somewhere around 1/2 that now. I've put a lot of it into digital rips I can stream with Plex. Some of this stuff, I can't imagine why I bought it. I gave away a lot of those, but there are still some left that honestly I don't think I'll ever rewatch. Even as I'm ripping it I'm thinking "why waste the space".

I too had a huge collection of film and music. I won’t live long enough to rewatch and appreciate all of it. Unless, I become bedridden God forbid. And so many of those ripped/ burned / cataloged / archived discs contain mediocre parts. I
Noticed playlists are VERY song specific. And movies can be equally scene specific. I see this same affliction amongst my “ literary friends”. Years ago I donated boxes of books. Boxes of music and films. Of all sorts of formats. Better to let someone else have these and either appreciate these or store them. I am done. Simplify simplify.

Not large by some measures, but not tiny, and still growing.

This is much, though not all, of it...

Uhhh... Yeah, there are about 3 more shelves (not units, just levels of shelf) of films to the left, and 2 shelves of vinyl under those. On the right here, you're looking at CDs. Once the media room is complete, I've got another 4' shelf of vinyl still in boxes. Lots of books too.
