Woman survives 'internal decapitation'

    Saw this a couple of days ago. I'm still trying to figure out how the sull slips off the spine. Sick.

    I believe what occurs is that there is a severing of the muscles which attach the skull to the spinal column, with a dislocation of the base of the skull (the occiput) from the first cervical vertebrae (the Atlas). The amazing thing is that her spinal cord was not severed, thus she was not paralyzed.

    Wow.
    I still don't understand how she isn't dead. But of course I keep thinking she is like "Nearly Headless Nick"

    Her head is still attached to her body. However, it is being held on mostly by the skin, rather than by joints, ligaments and muscles.

    The remarkable thing is that tis occurred without her brain and spinal cord separating, which would have left her a quadriplegic.

    The only side-effect from this was that she is now cross-eyed. Unbelieveable!

    Wonder if this is similar to the fatal injuries suffered by Dale Earnhart?

    He died from massive brain trauma.

    He died from a fracture at the base of the skull.
